NCLEX-RN is becoming popular among nursing students in Nepal. Every year, thousands of nursing graduates participate in the NCLEX-RN exam hoping to practice nursing in the United States, and the number is still increasing. Just like any other exam, it is very important for students to be familiar with all the requirements for an NCLEX-RN exam as well.
Therefore, for those wishing to become a Registered Nurse (RN) in the USA, We, the NCLEX Nepal team, have brought this blog where we have discussed all the requirements and step-by-step process to become an RN in the USA. Let’s get started.
First and foremost, you must be a registered nurse of Nepal to apply for an NCLEX-RN exam. Once you earn a license as a registered nurse in Nepal, then you can proceed for the next steps.
Below are mentioned all the requirements or say the processes you will need to go through to apply for an NCLEX-RN test.
An NCLEX-RN application process starts with CGFNS (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools). CGFNS is a test that is designed to determine the knowledge, skills and competency of nursing graduates to work as registered nurses in the United States.
The CGFNS program is divided into three parts:
After a successful completion of all these three segments, the candidate receives a CGFNS Certificate.
Once you receive your CGDNS Certificate, the next thing you need to do is choose the right state board of nursing for your NCLEX-RN exam. Don’t choose a state board based on its popularity but consider choosing such a state board whose requirements are easy and quick to fulfill.
Remember that the state board you choose for the NCLEX-RN exam is not necessarily the state you will get to work in. Your work assignment depends on the facilities that select you.
When you join NCLEX Nepal, you do not have to worry about the state board selection because we at NCLEX Nepal assist our students in choosing and applying to the right State Board of Nursing for them.
Once you have chosen a State Board of Nursing, you can now apply for your NCLEX-RN exam. Pearson VUE is the best way to apply for the test. Pearson VUE delivers licensure to the NCLEX examination for NCSBN (National Council of State Boards of Nursing). When you apply from Pearson VUE, you receive your ATT (Authorization to Test) letter earlier.
Follow the steps mentioned below to apply for an NCLEX-RN exam on Pearson VUE.
When the State Board of Nursing you choose for your NCLEX-RN test approves your application, they send the approval to Pearson VUE which will then send you an ATT letter. Receiving the ATT letter means you are eligible to participate in the NCLEX-RN exam.
After receiving the ATT letter, now what you have to do is book an exam center and schedule your NCLEX exam date. As there is no NCLEX exam center in Nepal, Nepalese NCLEX-RN applicants have to take part in the exam from India.
Below are the details regarding the NCLEX test center of India.
Trade Center, Dickenson Road, Next to Maniple Centre, Bangalore, KAR 560042
Contact No. : +91-80-41134165
Go to the exam center on your scheduled date and participate in the test.
NOTE: Your scheduled exam date should be before the expiry date comes with the ATT letter.
It may take upto six weeks for the Board of Nursing to send you a letter notifying you if you have passed the NCLEX-RN exam or not.
Passed the NCLEX-RN exam. Now what? There are a few more steps you have to follow to practice as a registered nurse in the United States. Check them out.
Once your NCLEX-RN result is out and you are listed as passed, now it’s time to find an employer. You can find an employer in the United States through an agency or direct. As you have now passed and have a nursing license for the US, you get countless options to practice nurse in the US.
Make sure you choose a legit and licensed employer only. We at NCLEX Nepal also help our students find the best employers for them. You will have an interview with the employer where you will have to convince them how you are the best fit for the job.
Now you are hired, the next thing you need to do is take an English Proficiency Test because you will need it for your visa processing. You have to take the academic module for the IELTS. Your IELTS score in the speaking subtest must be 7 and your total IELTS band score must be 6.5.
After passing the IELTS Test, you can now start your VisaScreen application process which is controlled by National Visa Center (NVC). They examine if you are eligible for a permanent resident visa or not. The Visa screen service verifies your licensure and English Proficiency Test score as well.
NCLEX Nepal also provides assistance on the VisaScreen application to its students. We submit documents and pay all fees on behalf of our students to the NVC. When your application is approved, you receive a Visa screen certificate which is valid for up to 5 years.
When you are hired after passing the interview with the employer, they issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) for you. With this Certificate of Sponsorship, you receive an EB-3 visa from the US government.
An EB-3 visa is a third preference employment-based (EB) green card. In simple words, it's a permanent work and residence permit of the United States. With an EB-3 visa, you are allowed to bring your first family (i.e. husband & sons) to permanently reside in the U.S. with you.
